OSINT. Open-source intelligence.

A term, a concept, that may have existed for a while.

Yet it was only until recently, say in the past few years, and incomparably since 2022, OSINT has become absolutely irreplaceable and impactful as a form of research and data-gathering method.

Realistically, no one person or entity can fully claim being the source of OSINT (see what l did there)…

Arguably, one could say that the firm Bellingcat was one of the earliest to mainstream OSINT and bring it to the attention of larger audiences, especially more casual users.

Its application and impact have been put on full display since Feb 24th, how useful it has been in supporting the Ukrainian’s especially, and noticeably changed the fortunes in several cases.

But that’s just the start.
